Dear Green Kirkland Volunteers:

You are warmly invited to participate in our Saturday March 8 kick-off Green Kirkland Partnership event for this year at Kiwanis Park (1405 10th St. W., Kirkland), from 9 a.m. until Noon (or any part thereof). Directions are given below. We are expecting a TV crew to film volunteers in action and it would a great to have a good turnout!!

We’ll be removing invasive English ivy and Himalayan blackberry in preparation for a planting event Saturday October 11. Your help in restoring our urban forest will be appreciated. Our forests are currently declining in health mainly because they are being smothered with invasive plant species, and our mission is to restore the forests back to sustainable health. Urban forests are valuable to: reduce greenhouse gases, purify the air, reduce stormwater runoff, provide habitat for urban wildlife, and provide City residents and visitors with natural areas and recreational trails.

On Saturday Park neighbors have generously offered to supply refreshments. Although the Kirkland Parks Department will provide tools, it’s always good to bring your favorite clippers and shovel if you have them.

Please dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.

For planning purposes, please let me know if you are bringing a group of people. You are also welcome to notify me individually if you are planning to participate.

Please let me know if you have photographic skills (or know someone who does) to help us record Green Kirkland events.

Please spread the word about Green Kirkland events, and let me know if you can suggest interested people to add to our list to receive messages. Let me know if you would like me to send you copies of a flyer advertising our events for 2008. Please also let me know if you no longer want to receive messages advertising Green Kirkland Partnership events.

We look forward to working side-by-side with you. Hope to see you Saturday March 8!

Sincerely,

Sharon and the Green Kirkland Partnership Team

Please also remember to mark your calendar for our Sat April 19 Earth Day event at Cotton Hill Park. More details regarding that event will follow in a few weeks; otherwise, please check www.greenkirkland.org or the web site below for details.
